Hiking the Devil's Punchbowl

looking into the devil's punch bowl Due to various illnesses, we have not been up to much lately. We will therefore can finally get around to posting more non-current pictures. Try not to be too disappointed. In fact, don't be disappointed at all.

devils punch bowl fallsThanksgiving weekend (now almost a month past) offered Tim some wonderful photographic opportunities. First we visited the Royal Botanical Gardens, the pictures from which we have already shared here. The next day, Tim, Marjorie and I skipped out on the kids. We had a hard time deciding what we were going to do with our free time; but we decided ultimately on a hike, since hiking is nearly impossible with the kids. It was a rare treat indeed.

downstream from the devils punch bowlWe drove to the east end of Hamilton and went for a 3-ish hour hike down a part of the Niagara Escarpment called the Devil's Punchbowl. Apart from bits of garbage that people, for whatever reasons, have thrown down into the "bowl", it was really beautiful. We hiked down one side of the escarpment and then up into the "bowl" and then back up the opposite side. The leaves were vibrant; still on the trees and saturated with colour.

in the devil's punch bowlUncle Ken was telling us that in times past, hooligans would sometimes send cars off the cliff into the "punch bowl". It's been significantly cleaned up, it seems.

We ended our foray with a trip to the Punchbowl Market, half of which is a bakery of pies, pastries, at which we tried our best to acquire some Devil's Love-handles.

All of the pictures here."
